Walk-A-Mile Event

UC WAM 2016 flier
Our mission is to raise awareness and educate the Union County community about domestic abuse, sexual assault and gender violence.

This is a family- oriented event held during the Uptown Friday Nights event in Marysville.  Participants are encouraged to bring their own shoes, whether it be the signature red high-heeled pump, or another female shoe.  We have also had participants decorate shoes to fit into the style of the event, making it a challenge and great fun for all involved.

A great way to participate is to form a Team!

  • Teams can be from a business (Starbucks, Target, local business, etc.) or sport or league (football, basketball, golf, etc.).  Teammates can encourage and compete with one another to raise the most awareness or funds. Some men, who would not walk alone, might walk if they are a part of a specific team.
  • Teams provide local businesses with a way to advertise their community involvement.

One of our most prominent teams is our local Guns-N-Hoses.

During the 2014 event, law enforcement was awarded the traveling trophy for having the most active participants walking in the event.
