The Union County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce that we have acquired a National Web Check system. The National Web Check is a cooperative effort between the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI&I) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that allows law enforcement agencies to offer the service of nationwide background checks for all civilians. With this new system, our agency will now be able to conduct civilian fingerprint background checks through Ohio’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and the FBI via the internet. This will reduce the response time required to perform a background check to five to seven business days. An individual may request an Ohio background check only, an FBI check only, or both an FBI and BCI&I check.
Web Checks will be mandatory beginning June 1, 2006 for all background requests as a replacement to ink-rolled fingerprint card requests. There will be occasions when an ink-rolled fingerprint card will need to be done, however BCI&I will evaluate these requests on an individual basis. A waiver form will need to be filled out and sent along with the cards. The waiver form and instructions are available at the Attorney General’s website at: http://www.ag.state.oh.us .
Waivers will be granted for the following reasons:

In order for someone to obtain a local criminal background check on someone other than themselves the form will need filled out with name, date of birth and/or social security number. This information is necessary to ensure the background check is being conducted on the correct person.
Results from the local check will only show type of charge, date of charge and the court the charges were filed through. The applicant will need to check dispositions of cases through the respective courts. Felony cases can be checked online at the Clerk of Courts website. Juvenile cases and Municipal Court cases must be checked in person at each court.
