Union County Prosecuting Attorney has over 25 years public service. Prior to his election as prosecuting attorney in 2005, he served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Union and Hardin Counties since 1988. David Phillips is currently serving his third term as the elected prosecutor.
Earning his juris doctor from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1984, David Phillips worked as a claims attorney for Grange Mutual Insurance in Columbus before joining a law firm in Marysville, where he practiced law until his election. He earned his B.A. in Business Administration from Michigan State University in 1981.
David Phillips is the past-president of the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association, and is serving on the Executive and Legislative Committtees of the Association. David Phillips has testified on behalf of the Association before both the Ohio House and Senate on legislation affecting Ohioans. He is a member of the National District Attorneys Association, and is the OPAA representative to the NDAA. He serves on the Ohio Supreme Court's Commission on Technology and the Courts and the Criminal Justice Information Systems Board. Mr. Phillips is also a representative to the Ohio Council of County Officials. He is a frequent speaker, including at the Ohio Attorney Generals Annual Law Enforcement Conference, the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy, the Ohio Coaltion for Adult Protective Services and the Ohio Retail Organized Crime Coalition.
